DRAGON LIGHTS
HOW THE ADVANTAGE WORKS (Fortune Skies / Mystical Falls / Secret Fortress)
WHEN TO PLAY
- Dragon Lights features four progressive free games meters—mini, minor, major and mega. The number of free games increases whenever one of the corresponding progressive symbols lands in the fifth reel. These aren’t must-hit-bys, so it is completely random when the progressives actually hit. Therefore, Dragon Lights is an extremely dangerous and volatile game that only experienced APs with large bankrolls should play.
WHEN TO PLAY
- Mini (purple): 25 or higher.
- Minor (blue): 37 or higher.
- Major (yellow): 56 or higher.
- Mega (red): 86 or higher (don’t ever attempt to directly chase this).
Additional notes
- I have access to the Dragon Lights [redacted], so I’m very confident in these playable numbers. That said, I can’t emphasize enough how dangerous and volatile uncapped progressive games like these are. I’ve heard stories of people playing Dragon Lights for 12 hours straight only to end up losing thousands of dollars. I personally know someone who lost over $2,000 chasing a mini. And the minor, major and mega are even more volatile.
- The whole idea behind this game becoming +EV is that the free games meter sometimes goes beyond the point where hitting it more than covers the cost to land it on average. The important words here are “on average”—if you don’t trigger the free games progressive in the average number of spins it takes to hit, then you will just end up digging yourself into a deeper and deeper hole. The number of free games will keep increasing, but not at a rate that will make up for your losses. It might feel like the machine is closer to hitting the more money that you put in, but that isn’t the case. So if you are a newer AP with a limited bankroll, then I recommend avoiding playing uncapped progressives. If you do decide to play, it can be helpful to set a budget for whatever amount you feel comfortable losing, and if you hit it, that’s awesome. If not, just call it a loss and move on. It might seem like a bad idea to abandon a play (if it was a good play when you started, then it is an even better play now, so why would you abandon it?), but bankroll management is crucially important. Chasing uncapped progressives is the most common way I have seen friends get completely destroyed, so caution always needs to be taken.
- I once chased a 44 mini to 53 on a $2.50 bet. While chasing the mini, I got super lucky and quickly hit both the major and mega. I was way ahead but continued chasing the mini. I finally gave up at 53 (it was late and I needed to head home). Overall, I ended the play down $145. Had I not hit the major and mega, I would have been down $671.
- I don’t recommend ever directly chasing the mega. The best method is to keep an eye on any high megas and then chase the smaller progressives when they are at playable numbers. You might get lucky and hit the mega during these chases. I have a friend who utilized this method and hit the mega at 150 free games on a $5 bet—he won over $4,000.
- The mini free games features up to 3x multipliers, the minor up to 5x, the major up to 8x and the mega up to 15x. It’s not just the number of free games that matters because the multipliers can have a dramatic effect on the payout.
- The flames appear on the numbers once they reach the average number that the progressive hits at. A higher number doesn’t mean it is more likely to hit though. I’ve heard recommendations from other APs to play whenever all four numbers are on fire. This is horrible advice—the numbers get flames way before they become +EV.
- All four of the progressives are actually capped at a maximum of 200 games. But that doesn’t mean it will trigger at that number, just that it won’t increase any further beyond that point.
- The game also has a progressive jackpot that resets to $10,000. The odds of hitting the jackpot are 1 in 2,880,000 according to the [redacted]. Mickey Crimm (a legend in the AP community) once hit it on a $0.50 bet and won over $22,000.
- Dragon Lights comes in three themes—Fortune Skies, Mystical Falls and Secret Fortress. All three versions have the same AP strategy.
- Dragon Lights has an RTP that ranges from 85.9% to 95%.
** Always keep in mind that these free games are not MHB progressives. They can go beyond the "average" # of free games builder.
